This Maryland Teacher and Principal Evaluation Guidebook will provide background on the Maryland Teacher/Principal Evaluation process and guidance for Local Education Agencies (LEAs) selecting the State model OR using the State framework to develop their own model. It describes the history, development and importance of Maryland’s new teacher and principal evaluation system. The Guidebook clearly outlines the criteria used to evaluate an educator’s professional practice and student growth achievement in the State Model, as well as their connection to the Maryland School Performance Index. Information about additional components, specifically Student Learning Objectives (SLOs), is part of the Guidebook. The Guidebook provides the transition timeline from the current pilots in 2011-2012 to the statewide field test in 2012-2013 to full implementation in 2013-2014. We hope that the Teacher/Principal Evaluation Guidebook is a helpful resource for Maryland educators and parents.
Sincerely,
Lillian M. Lowery, Ed.D.
